Municipality of Amsterdam
Where is the building file of your house in Amsterdam?
Which archive holds the file depends on the year the permit was granted. Below is where to be for each period, with the date on which I checked it.
This covers stadsdelen Centrum, Noord, Oost, West, Nieuw-West, Zuid, Zuidoost and Weesp as well.
Period by period
The counters in Amsterdam
Two boundaries matter in Amsterdam, 1905 and 2010. The middle stretch is online and free to download, and almost the entire housing stock falls inside it. The city archive holds foundation information as well, which in Amsterdam is usually the first thing a structural question needs.
Before 1905
Stadsarchief Amsterdam
Search the image bank by address. The drawing downloads with the icon to the left of the image.
As I noted it in Dutch, with the links and the exact terms you will need on their website:
beeldbank. Zoek op adres; de tekening is te downloaden met het pictogram links naast de afbeelding. https://archief.amsterdam/beeldbank
I can look this file up and download it for you.
1905 to 2010
Stadsarchief Amsterdam
Free to download from the city's own data map. Search by address or postcode, pick the right address and scroll down the row Adresgegevens to the heading Bouwdossiers. These files were built up by the city districts and handed over to the archive later, so one file often covers a whole block of houses. The municipality names foundation information here explicitly.
As I noted it in Dutch, with the links and the exact terms you will need on their website:
I can look this file up and download it for you.
From 2011
gemeente Amsterdam
For permits from 2011 onwards the city gives no online counter and no email address, only the phone number 14 020, Monday to Friday between 08.00 and 18.00. I have not established whether they will supply me on your behalf, so this is the one period here I cannot promise to request for you.
For this period I have not yet checked whether the archive also supplies me.
Worth knowing
Some buildings are closed off for security reasons. Those only open with the permission of the owner or another interested party.
As I noted it in Dutch, with the links and the exact terms you will need on their website:
Niet-openbaar verklaarde panden: een deel van de panden is om veiligheidsredenen afgeschermd en komt alleen los met toestemming van de eigenaar of belanghebbende.

I checked these details on 14 September 2026. Counters and period boundaries change; if something no longer holds, please tell me.

Rather not do this yourself
I put together the file for your address
For € 145 including VAT I collect the building file and everything else known about your address that can matter structurally: the cone penetration tests nearby, the soil profile, the foundation picture of the neighbourhood, the plot details and the aerial photographs year by year. With it you get a reader's guide in English that says what is there and what is missing. For € 295 I also map the load-bearing structure of the house: the walls that carry load on each floor, the roof, the foundation and what keeps it stable. Only after what the public records say, without the archive? Then there is the address report for € 95.
Have me do the structural calculation afterwards and this amount comes off it. If the archive holds nothing, you get your money back.
